Industry Overview

The current set of challenges in the energy industry includes the following:

• Initial strategy is still a key issue that involves lowering overall, and consumer energy COSTS through efficiency, rate design, and market structure
• Incorporating EQUITY concerns ensures that low and moderate-income customers and customers who are BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) receive adequate support to participate in and secure the benefits of efficiency and rate design.
• Incorporating CLIMATE IMPACT concerns into the energy industry is a critical issue in the energy industry planning and policies. These include both mitigating and adaptation of our energy system that include electrification of our buildings and vehicles, renewable energy, and setting goals and achieving them.
• Help policy leaders in government and legislatures to implement policies and programs that help each piece of the puzzle move forward effectively and in a manner that is mutually beneficial and effective across all the different technologies and strategies to achieve a common set of goals.

The policies at the state, local, and federal levels are changing very quickly to address the broad set of expanded goals and objectives that are being advocated and which we are supporting.

THERE IS A NEED TO address all parts of the growing industry to achieve the expanding policy goals and to achieve the broad set of expanded objectives that we are facing.

THERE IS A NEED TO establish the role, goals, and procedures for the energy efficiency industry to address the range of expanded goals that need to be addressed.

THERE IS A NEED TO identify and incorporate the constantly changing technologies to address the needs and goals of our expanding clean energy industry.

Each set of technologies necessary to achieve the policy goals has a specific implementation and set of economic issues involved with implementation.

These include:

• Heat Pumps/HVAC;
• Renewables that include solar and wind;
• Storage to better control intermittent power generation;
• Efficiency in all sectors;
• New technologies that are identified and developed, such as Hydrogen, CHP, smart grid, rate design, and customer pricing.

• Help each piece of the puzzle to address both policy guidelines and opportunities to support enhancement;
• Help each piece of the puzzle learn how to work together more effectively on both policy and implementation.
• Help across the whole puzzle to set goals and guidelines on how and when to complete the implementation of efforts that achieve all parts of the vision and pieces of the puzzle.

Steve Cowell has worked for 43 years across most, if not all, the pieces of the Clean Energy Industry puzzle.

Cowell Consulting aims to work as a consultant and supporter for organizations and companies that are making efforts to be more effective on both their focused goals and the goal of working more collaboratively to secure benefits from multiple pieces of the puzzle and strategies working together.

Cowell Consulting will help increase improvements to homes and use of their energy needs:

• To incorporate increased efficiency;
• To lower overall energy demand;
• To incorporate new technologies such as EV charging; renewable energy; storage; tracking and management and
• To maintain lower costs as a result of detailed analysis of how the technologies and their implementation and use can help the consumer and the policy goals.

The strategy above will not be easy:

• As policies change,
• As federal, state, and local efforts move in parallel but at different levels of speed and detail;
• As the electric grid needs changes to accommodate the goals at all levels.
